This October I was lucky enough to be one of 50 people selected to participate in the American Library Association (ALA) 2017 class of Emerging Leaders. The program is designed to enable library staff and information workers to participate in project planning workgroups, network with peers, gain an inside look into ALA structure, and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity early in their careers.
Today I received an email letting me know which project I was assigned based off of a list of projects that we had to rate our interest in, and I am super stoked with the result. I will be working on EL Team A with Antonio R. Apodaca, Bethany Wilson, Christina Fuller-Gregory, and Petra Pendroff on a project from the Public Library Association (PLA) of ALA. We will be working on “Advancing Diversity in Public Libraries.”In addition to the amazing project, and what should be an excellent team, we have two fantastic project mentors in Manya Shorr, Director of Public Services at the DC Public Library and Scott Allen, Deputy Director, Public Library Association (PLA).
I’m ecstatic about this opportunity and will share more as the project takes shape.
