Here is a quick and simple video introduction to the everyday use of Transliteracy. I hope you enjoy it and if you would like the recipe for the Delicious Blueberry Smoothie, pick the medium or format you’re most comfortable with and let me know.
My mother always told me growing up that “ If you work hard enough people will take notice. It may take a few days, months, or even years, but they will recognize it.” These words rang true for me multiple times today and only acted as a catalyst for me to achieve more. This morning I received a text from a co-worker alerting me that I was named employee of the month for my library system. I know that it doesn’t seem like that much of an honor in the grand scheme of things, but it means that people have taken notice in what I’m doing and feel that I’m deserving of this award. That alone is worth all the time and effort that I’ve put into my library.
This afternoon I met up with another co-worker to talk about some of the projects and research that I’ve been doing as of late. The bulk of this work is for the Future, Innovations and Technology Committee AKA Super Friends. The purpose of this committee is to look at current technology, innovations with technology/libraries, trendspotting and how we could implement what we find into our services. I have multiple irons in the fire for this group. The topics range from analyzing search engines, web browsers, applications that apply to certain browsers such as Zotoero, streamlining already existing services, possibly circulating Kindles, texting services, and getting our system widely received through social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and Youtube. Talking with her really helped me understand that when I get frustrated or just want to stop, I should keep at it. I value her opinion and her enthusiasm towards what I’ve already done just makes me want to do more.
Finally, this evening I found out that I have been elected to the Advisory Council for my system. This too lets me know that people are taking notice and think that I can facilitate change for our system as a whole. I plan on really focusing on the direction that we need to take in the future and how we can advance services that will benefit our patrons, staff, and community for the better. Hopefully I can do this and prove that thier electing me was a valid choice. All in all it was a very good day for me and I look forward to more of them very soon.
